Our international placements run on a yearly cycle. Recruitment for the 2015-2016 cycle will begin in January 2015 for placements starting September 2015. Placement volunteers will be seconded to and work with our partner organisations for a duration of 6-12 months.

Motorised Wheelchair Kill-switch Project

The SPD Specialized Assistive Technology Centre assesses, recommends and trains new users in the use of motorized wheelchairs. As these new users are unfamiliar with the sensitivity of the controls, it is common for them to lose control of the wheelchair, causing panic and potential harm to themselves and their trainers.

The aim of this project is to develop a universal, low cost, remote kill-switch for motorized wheelchairs, to facilitate the training process.

Team roles:

  • Project manager: Responsible for leading the team, communications with SPD and managing project deliverables and timeline
  • Tech team members: Responsible for working closely with the team to develop an appropriate solution

LEAP Motion Sensor Project

The SPD Specialized Assistive Technology Centre has a resource base of ICT devices that their clients can tap on to assist with rehabilitation and daily living.

The aim of this project is to develop a program for the LEAP motion sensor for use in rehabilitation, through detection and gamification of the movements of the fingers, to help people regain fine motor movement in their hands and fingers.

Team roles:

  • Project manager: Responsible for leading the team, communications with SPD and managing project deliverables and timeline
  • Tech team members: Responsible for working closely with the team to develop an appropriate solution

Fundraising Manager

This role will appeal to a charismatic individual who is passionate about increasing public support of EWB-Asia. You will be responsible for initiating, crafting and driving fundraising campaigns during the year. You will also work with other departments to help identify and implement ideas to leverage on other EWB-Asia activities for fundraising.

Roles and responsibilities:

  • Work with the EWB-Asia team to initiate, craft and drive public fundraising campaigns, such as online crowdfunding campaigns
  • Create strong and unique relationships with our audience to develop them into active contributors to our cause

Commitment level:
The Fundraising Manager is expected to attend monthly executive committee meetings, and hold meetings as required for planning and execution of campaigns.

Communications Manager

This role will appeal to a creative individual who is passionate about raising awareness about EWB-Asia and our cause. You will be responsible for crafting and implementing marketing and communications strategy. You will also work with other departments to create and edit content to publicise our work to our supporters.

Roles and responsibilities:

  • Work with the EWB-Asia team to develop the organisation’s marketing and communications strategy
  • Develop creative content to communicate relevant and consistent messages to EWB-Asia’s stakeholders

Commitment level:
The Communications Manager is expected to attend monthly executive committee meetings, and coordinate with external parties (graphics designers, videographers etc.) for content development.

  • Experience in marketing or communications
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills
  • Good organisational, priority setting and time management skills
  • Enjoys working in collaborative teams
  • Passion for development and social issues
